It All Started After Someone Asked If Billy Joel Was Gay On A Google Group

Well, for starters it all started back in the 1990s just when Google was available to the general public. Out of curiosity, an unidentified person asked this weird question on a Google Group saying,

“My fiance told me that She had heard that Billy Joel was gay. I have never heard such a thing and I was wondering if any of you can help me find out the truth.”

But with no surprise, most of the replies he received were against the claim, saying that Joel is straight and not gay. However, after some research, we came across another singer and pianist John Elton who is in fact gay and was married to Renate Blauel from 1984 to 1988 and later married David Furnish from 2005 to 2014. He again married David in 2014.

What Is Billy Joel’s Sexuality?

As we mentioned in the above paragraph, Billy is straight. He has been straight from the day he was born on May 9, 1949, in the Bronx, New York. He is the son of Howard Joel and Rosalind Nyman. Billy was born to Jewish parents but attended a Roman Catholic church and now identifies himself as an atheist.

By now you may know that the multi-millionaire singer-songwriter is straight. You may not know that he has been married four times in his lifetime.

Joel was married to Elizabeth Weber Small from 1973 to 1982. He later walked down the aisle with Christie Brinkley in 1985 and they were together until 1994. During their marriage, they became parents to Alexa Ray born in 1985. She is a singer-songwriter and pianist much like her father.

After his divorce, he went on to marry Katie Lee in 2004 but much like his other marriages it also ended in the same way and the duo parted ways in 2009. Much seemed lost but the 73-year-old singer found love for the fourth time marrying Alexis Roderick in 2015. The pair have been together ever since even parents to two beautiful daughters Della Rose Joel and Remy Anne Joel born in 2015 and 2017.

Billy Has Been An Active Supporter Of The LGBTQ Community

Joel isn’t gay but what he is, is an active supporter of the LGBTQ community. The singer along with other 300 fellow artists was the one who begged the Senate to pass the Equality Act for the rights of the LGBTQ community.

On June 23, 2021, Billy shared a post “The Equality Act: A Night Of Action” to make people aware and encourage them to support the community. His post further read,

“Stand with the LGBTQ community and urge the Senate to pass the Equality Act to protect LGBTQ people. Join @allycoalition and @theneatorg for a Night of Action on June 24th at 7pm ET/4 pm PT to learn how you can help pass the Equality Act.”

Even though he isn’t gay, Joel’s support for the community is quite commendable and we encourage all of you reading this to do the same.
